![]() Who is Charlie Flint? Before Alberta was named Alberta (Alberta was part of the N.W.T. until it was named Alberta in 1905), Charlie Flint had started one of the Province’s first Breweries. In 1884, Charlie Flint was creating fresh brews for the locals on Stephen Avenue (four years before the Alberta Hotel was built). Mr. Flint’s City Brewery would help create a legacy of hand crafted beer in Alberta. Today, the Alley Kat Brewing Company from Edmonton honours his name on the label of one of their fine beers. Charlie Flint’s Original Lager is refreshing and crisp and is brewed using the finest local ingredients including Alberta Two Row Barley and hops from the Pacific Northwest. The original lager has noticeable carbonation like most lagers do, as well as a faint hop character to make it a slightly bitter beer. Light and smooth enough for a hot summer day. It also pairs nicely with seafood, pork or barbeque. Calgary has a lot of hidden secrets and Flint is just one of them. So lets raise a glass and give a toast to Charlie Flint! -S.J. |
