Gray Monk

This wine is fast becoming a favourite of the staff here at The Cellar. This is what Chardonnay tastes like without a 2-by-4 in your glass. In other words, you get all of the fruit, with none of the heavy oak flavours that dominate some other Chardonnays.

Gray Monk was one of the first estate wineries in the Okanagan, and is the culmination of a life-long dream by the owners, the Heiss family, who immigrated from Germany to realize their dream. They sent their son back to Germany to learn how to make solid, old-world style wines, and he returned four years later and has overseen every harvest and vitification ever since.

This Chardonnay represents a new direction for Gray Monk, as they move away from old-world traditions and embrace a technique that shows off the fruit flavours of their wines. This unwooded Chardonnay is very different from others you may have had, and really highlights the subtle grape characteristics such as lemon, apple, and melon, with undertones of honey and figs. This wine would pair best with cheese appetizers, cream sauces, or citrus-flavoured fish dishes.
